Feral Spotlight:Deebs

3727333086_804e0f1579_b

Deebs  started playing classical music on the violin at age 5. During highschool he taught himself the guitar and drums and played with a few bands – nothing very serious though. Once university hit he became exposed to the electro scene and was immediately influenced to start producing his own tracks and DJ’ing. He’s been producing his own stuff for about a year now and has been DJ’ing for about a year as well at parties and a couple clubs along the way. This summer him and his friend are organizing the “Four to the Floor” parties in Guelph with the goal of promoting electro music in Guelph and giving exposure to local/Southern Ontario DJ’s. He hopes to get more and more shows in the near future while continuing to produce his own original mixes as well as remixes.

Tell me some of the dj’s you’ve performed with?

I’ve been lucky enough to DJ with Torontonians: Thunderheist, Gingy and Golden Gloves in my short DJ’ing career.

Who would you like to perform with in the future?
Daft Punk…I heard their live shows are OK.

Who were your greatest influences musically?

Started listening to Radiohead and The Chemical Brothers in university about 3 years ago. The diversity of their music allowed me to make the transition from listening to indie/experimental rock into purely electronic music. I think Radiohead’s more recent albums Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief really motivated me to start playing with effects and synths. I came across a Crookers’ mixtape as well over a year ago… that got me into the grimey shit.

Bangers I’ve been selfishly keeping for myself

So I’ve gotten a few songs here that are absolutely loved, and I feel like it’s time to share them all with you. The Treasure Fingers remix is awesome (but the original is great too, bug me enough and I might share it too), a b-more mix of Ghost Girl, frenchesque remix of Van She, an “it’s about time” hit from the long silent Digikid84, and the new Acid Girls. Please feel free to download, heart, comment, facebook, tweet, etc.

Acid Girls – Wake Up (Feat Frankmusik)

Telepopmusik – Ghost Girl (Tittsworth Remix)

Digikid84 – Rock Steady In The Night

Ocelot – Our Time (Treasure Fingers Remix)

Van She – Strangers (Strip Steve Remix)

Beaches and Beeches

I’ve been fully enjoying the global warming this summer, kind of makes you want to buy a car that pollutes more doesn’t it? Last summer I didn’t enjoy the outdoors nearly as much, so I encourage everyone else to enjoy the summer while it lasts, and anyone who was at Christo’s B-Day party already has a good pool party under their belt. Here’s some music that should inspire you.

Empire of the Sun – Walking On A Dream (Money For Sluts Remix)

This is my jam, comment and let me know if you like it. I laid down my bass guitar with some synth stabs and crazy basslines to make it fun.

Fukkk Offf – Bl00dfuck (Lebatman Remix)

I was amazed when I heard this, if you’ve heard the new Fukkk Offf album or at least “Rave is King”, you’d expect something hard, Lebatman (love the name) takes it in a different direction.

Database – Beaches And Friends Feat. French Horn Rebellion (Hey Champ Remix)

I’ve been loving French Horn Rebellion, check them out, if you haven’t heard any Hey Champ!, check them out too.

Knightlife – Crusader

Knightlife, of course, consistently puts out great tracks.

Miami Horror – Don’t Be On With Her (Treasure Fingers remix)

Treasure Fingers (if you haven’t seen him live, check him out sometime, he comes around the east coast a lot), puts some new life in this 2 year old (can you believe it?) jam with some cool vocals that really resurrect this song we’ve all loved.

Little Boots – Remedy (Ruskos Big Trainers Remix)

Rusko brings out the “Pro Nails” treatment with this one, with the “Hey!”s and “Oh!”s and of course the BASSLINE.

Feral Spotlight:Beyourself Network

beyourselfnetwork03

Beyourself network’s compilations goal is discovering emerging artists who distribute their own music on mainly networks & underground scenes. Each volume will be selected by a guest giving him/her a total “carte blanche” to select music and artwork that will introduce his playlist, his highlight tracks, his secret music bombs… In other words, his network ! BeYourself project started on June 2008 with a goal: support emerging artists who bump into record labels’ lack of initiative (They don’t have a lot of manoeuvre margin with the actual music industry circumstances). Nowadays, a lot of artists who have their own style distribute their music on mainly networks with auto promotions. This way they can share and broadcast their works. Anyway, for most of them, they don’t have enough visibility because of the releases and remixes affluence… Too much tracks circulate and get lost in a Web that gets fatter and fatter. To a medium term, the aim of this project is promote BeYourself Compilation’s artists. A challenge our guests will rise to the occasion giving them a total “Carte Blanche” on each volume. No boundaries : each guest will bring his own vision and personal touch. With the new music industry deal, the internet and its networks are more than ever full of talent.
