Feral Spotlight:Video Villain

videovillain

Marie France and Lucy Catherwood met in a High School class room. They both studied music from an early age. Lucy learning classical guitar and piano, and Marie, the piano and trombone. The two instantly became the strongest of allies through their shared passion of music and art.

By day they were studying classical pieces, yet by night they were listening to Nine Inch Nails and Muse, and producing demo’s on their second hand cassette 4 track.

The two went on to study Fine Art at University, but like Jekyll and Hyde, at night they continued with their musical ambitions. Soon, nights became days and the pair were dedicating increasingly more time to their music.

In 2005 they formed the new wave band Dead Disco who were quickly snapped up by Warner Music label 679. They disbanded in 2007 as they felt they were being pulled in different musical directions.

They then took a year out to develop their own clothing line Art Disco and also design artwork for other bands. This time away from the music scene rekindled their original desire to make music and they began to produce a sound that harked back to their early influences: Nine Inch Nails, David Bowie, The Prodigy and N*E*R*D.

This time the 4 track had been upgraded to Pro Tools and the acoustic guitars exchanged for electric guitars and analogue synths, but still the same passion remained.

Tell me some of the dj’s you’ve performed with?
This project is really fresh for us at the moment (we’ve only been going since Christmas) so we’re currently working on taking the studio to the stage.

Who would you like to perform with in the future?

Nine Inch Nails would be an ultimate dream. We’d also love to play with Does it offend you, yeah? because even though they have a lot of electronic sounds in their music they still put on a good show and are very much a live band.

Who were your greatest influences musically?

We have a lot of varied influences, but we’d say our top 5 are: Nine Inch Nails, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Missy Elliot and Daft Punk.

Feral Spotlight:Love-Markov

alm6

ALM: ‘Fractal mind, ambivalence, flexibility, reasonable extremity, sophisticated pedantry, every-day austerity, dark optimism, intensive pragmatism, functional nihilism (I kindly ask you not to mix it up with cynicism, individualism or other solipsism stuff) – here are the basic points of The 1980′s Demographic EXplosion Splinters (ODVZ-80) pop-doctrine, that by the way doesn’t give answers to all the questions. We are simply able to ask the right questions rightly, which is enough so far. To be continued in the following chapters of our lives…’

Tell me some of the dj’s you’ve performed with?
The most of deejays in my area just hate me… hahaha! As 4 Love-Markov he’s really not singer, not musician & not deejay. Well i am front boy, kind of a MC who likes dancing in a rather sexy lingerie & loud singing my explicit lyrics out of tunes! That’s why I should be the only one when I’m on stage…)

Who would you like to perform with in the future?

Despite I’m quite straight u know I’d obviously want to perform with Brazilian favela funkers Solange To Aberta! Penelope Edmund from London is wicked as well.

Who were your greatest influences musically?

Russia’s Prince Nuri, Nasekomuss, EVM Kadysheva & minimal boot one-man band.

When did you finally realize you wanted to be a Dj / Producer?
It seems I haven’t realized so far what exactly I do!))

Who affects you today musically?
Chicago-based 19-y.o. Austin! White… he’s marvelous hip hop beatmaker, rapper & even trance producer. I believe he’d certainly get dozens of Grammies someday!

What CD is in your car stereo right now?
LMAO TSE TUNG, dude!!! Well I have driver’s license of course yet have no car at all. So when I go out I’m listening 2 my own stuff mostly. And it’s just Sony Ericsson W580i which helps me outdoors.

How do you describe your music to people?
That’s the finest Russian-speaking pop zvuzika! The only one of its kind.

What is the most memorable live performance experience?
To be honest, every 2nd gig of mine was failed. Actually I don’t like club shows. But the other half of my performances was great for sure! Well I dislike the mikes – prefer 2 sing through combs in bedrooms, aqua parks & garrets. One of the craziest performances was ‘NOT TEARS BUT SONGS’ private gig in last August. During my Ace of Base cover that girlie audience in Moscow had just forced me to get naked in full!))

Is there a tour in your near future?
Yup! That would be The Great Love-Markov’s Odyssey 2009-2010. The route of that was developed last year & considers all the Western hemisphere countries except Caribbean’s. Yeah I’m going to have some gigz there, work 4 food & hump yr sweetest aborigine galz… awwkay!

Feral Spotlight:The Studio Band Headliner

tallblack
Originally from the north (NJ/NY area), moved to FL in 2001 and started making music in 2004. Started out as “DJRM”, solo Industrial music project, got into a girl band playing guitar called “The Monas” for a brief moment in time, started in another band called Slowing Inertia as the guitarist for that for about a year and started a side project with the singer doing electronic music named “Inbox”. Left Slowing Inertia when they turned into “Between Lives” (and continued to ”Start Change Stop” and now “Tides of Man”) and started “The Shades”, played several shows in FL with that band as singer, guitarist and bass for two years. Put that band on hold, all the while still making music as “DJRM”. DJed at a few small places as “DJRM” and got a bit of radio play last year off the album “Dissonance” following an interview on 88.5 WMNF for the show ZenTrip. I started recording other artists in a studio downtown Clearwater as “Pernicious Records” briefly and then I decided to contribute to the modern club scene with The Studio Band Headliner. I put all of my projects under the Pernicious Records label and have been working hard on getting recognition for The Studio Band Headliner. The sole, REAL band member of TSBH is, I will let you in on this secret, just me, James Makan; but Erik Eisenman, bassist, guitarist and vocalist from “The Shades” has agreed to help me play for the purpose of live shows during tours as well a few other friends I have played music with throughout the years. I have a good feedback ratio for this band of about 100:1 and I have gotten a few DJs to add my music to their playlists for their own shows. So far, as this band’s birthdate is December of 2008, the recorded discography is just the EP “Short Cut” – but later in 2009 the album ”F***, Marry, Murder” will be released and a tour will be thrown out for the promotion of that album’s release immediately after.

Tell me some of the dj’s/Bands  you’ve performed with?
I used to make industrial/dance music under a different name (DJRM) but I hadn’t done any public shows really besides an interview on the radio at 2am,maybe.With other bands I have been in, I have played live shows throughout my career in music. Other bands that we have played on the set with in the past are: Taffy, Tides of Man, Tabula Rasa, Start Change Stop, The Mants and a few others.

Who would you like to perform with in the future?
I’d love to perform with The Faint, MGMT, Interpol, Depeche Mode, Justice, She Wants Revenge, The Strokes… to name a very small few.
